Speckhard - Knight Charitable Foundation

About Us:

In a sudden six month period my parents passed away. From their deaths sprang the Speckhard - Knight Charitable Foundation. Speckhard is my mother's maiden name. Germanic in origin but wholly American in spirit, Faith Knight taught us humor, compassion and tolerance - all useful and excellent qualities for grantmaking. My mother was an avid reader, a true lover of animals in general and cats in particular. She was also an honest believer in the human spirit to persevere and triumph.

My father, James A. Knight, provided the funds for the foundation through a bequest in his will. He was an extremely successful businessman: a manufacturer and distributor of a variety of heating and air conditioning products, an entrepreneurial expolorer for oil and gas and a successful equity investor. His keen eye for detail and dedication to excellence are important principles we use in operating the foundation.
